OUR STORY

Here at Watkins Red Angus, we are not only a cattle business but a family business. We started back in 1985 when Andy Watkins sold a cow for his first truck. If you ask him, he will tell you it was the worst decision he ever made! Since then, we have learned the value of a good investment... like Red Angus cattle! In the spring of 2017, we purchased our first two Red Angus calves because we wanted to try something different. From that moment on, we have fallen in love with the maternal instincts, docility, and meat quality that these cows possess. Now in the spring of 2024, we have grown to approximately 150 head of registered Red Angus.

Whether you put them in the pasture or use them in the show ring, our reds know how to do their jobs. We focus on raising elite cattle that possess the traits our customers have come to expect like docility, adaptability, carcass quality, and mothering ability.

REGENERATIVE RANCHING

We strive to be grass farmers first, and cattle ranchers second. This means taking care of the land we've been given to the best of our abilities. We do this by rotationally grazing the cows year-round, stockpiling our forages, allowing the natural mix of polyculture in our forages, utilizing minimum till when we plant winter and summer grazing plots, and applying natural fertilizers to maintain soil health
NATURAL CATTLE​
We understand the importance of protecting the integrity of our herd's health sustainably. We utilize natural methods of deworming our cattle, keep antibiotic use to a minimum, and never use hormones

Whether we are sponsoring the Junior Red Angus Association or assisting local juniors with their fair projects, we are always happy to give back to the communities that have helped us grow along the way!
